Again this summer, the City's Department of Parks and Recreation is presenting its Jazz in the Park series of Sunday concerts. Concerts will take place at parks around town throughout the summer, including an evening featuring the Fulton Street Jazz Band on Sunday, July 13, at our own Belle Cooledge Park, next to the library at 5699 So. Proposed Changes at Reichmuth Park:

The City of Sacramento's Park Planning and Development Services Committee has a proposed plan for updating Reichmuth Park. The plan’s first phase includes adding a skateboard park and replacing the existing water spray area. The lack of those two features is considered a planning area deficiency by the City, and Reichmuth was designated as the area park most suitable to hold those features. Other, as yet unfunded items in the long-term plan include such features as seating areas, pathways, exercise stations, ornamental gardens, and more.

The Reichmuth Park proposal was heard at the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting on May 1st. In turn, the Commission will make a recommendation to the City Council, which will then vote on approving the proposal. The date of that Council hearing has not yet been set. For further information, contact Councilman Rob Fong’s office at 808-7340, or Parks planner, Jeff Nittka, 808-5996.

Annual General Meeting:

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the SLPNA Board found it necessary to postpone our 2008 annual meeting, which is usually held at the end of March.  We are now planning to combine the annual meeting with our National Night Out event on August 5.  Please check this page again over the summer for more details.

National Night Out:

On Tuesday, August 5, 2008, the association will hold it's second celebration of this national movement to keep neighborhoods safe.  The event will be held in the schoolyard at Alice Birney Elementary School, 6251 13th Street, from 6:30 to 9:00 PM.  Again this year, we plan to have a mobile industrial-sized shredder on site, at no cost to you -- it's a great way to securely destroy old records and other personal documents!  So over the summer, be sure to gather up everything you'd like to bring to the school to be shredded.

This will again be a family affair, with free Vic's ice cream cones, and more.  Further details will be posted on this page or in our newsletter over the next few months.

Member e-mail addresses:

Over 150 members have provided us with their e-mail addresses over the last few years, which we maintain in an email distribution list.  The addresses are used by the SLPNA Board to send out crime and public safety alerts specific to our neighborhood, as well as occasional notices about important issues and events.  On average, we send out perhaps eight to ten e-mails a year.  We do not share members' addresses with any other entity and all notes are blind-copied.  Because many of you have not yet provided us with your e-mail address, or your email address has changed, if you care to receive informative notes from the SLPNA Board, please send an e-mail to slpna@slpna.org, including your name and home address (so we can cross reference our membership list) and we'll update our email distribution list.
